Trump officials have been making promises about ending cruel and outdated animal testing, but Laura Loomer and White Coast Waste Project have uncovered that many controversial taxpayer-funded grants and contracts for animal experiments, that were originally initiated by Dr. Fauci under the Biden Administration, are now quietly being renewed under the new Trump administration.
The latest accountability failure in ending cruel and outdated animal testing comes from Trump’s Department of Defense (DOD).
As Laura Loomer recently reported, the DOD is still funding a Biden-era contract to test experimental drugs on 300 beagles a week in China, which is a serious threat to national security and animal welfare. It’s also completely unnecessary. Trump’s Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, who opposes dog testing, just stated that this kind of animal testing for human drugs is outdated and inefficient.
White Coat Waste (WCW) has learned that the DOD’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency recently extended a $10 million contract to the University of Pittsburgh for inhumane experiments on cats. In these absurd DOD-funded animal tests, cats have marbles and balloons shoved into their rectums and are then electro-shocked for constipation and erectile dysfunction studies.
The DOD contract was supposed to expire in May of 2025, but a federal spending database shows the contract was recently extended to run throughout 2027.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) also criticized this DOD cat testing project in his Festivus waste report last year, citing White Coat Waste’s investigation.
The DOD renewed funding for this disturbing cat testing despite widespread opposition from Congress, veterans, and animal advocates. Last year, the Republican-led House included language in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) defunding the DOD’s dog and cat experiments, but the Democrat-led Senate Armed Services Committee stripped the amendment from the final bill.
If he’s serious about fixing the broken DOD, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth can and should put an immediate end to the Pentagon’s abuse of animals, and President Trump’s administration should work with DOGE on cutting these cruel experiments and the enormous amount of taxpayer dollars that are being wasted on abusing innocent animals.
