Unions representing federal employees have continued their protests against President Donald Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) this week, with demonstrations unfolding on Capitol Hill and outside federal buildings. Loomer Unleashed was on the scene, capturing exclusive footage of the events as they unfolded.
On Thursday, Loomer Unleashed documented a “Clap Out” protest organized outside the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) headquarters in support of recently terminated USAID employees. The mainstream media provided extensive coverage of the event, which saw former USAID staff clearing out their desks, many departing with rolling suitcases in tow. Separate footage from the same day revealed protesters wearing jackets emblazoned with the logo of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), a prominent union representing federal workers.
The AFGE has a well-documented history of political engagement. Federal Election Commission (FEC) records indicate that the union’s political action committee has made contributions to several notable Democrat figures and organizations. These include President Joe Biden, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), and 2024 Democratic Senate candidates Bob Casey (Pennsylvania), Ruben Gallego (Arizona), and Jacky Rosen (Nevada). The committee has also donated to Representative Bennie Thompson.
The AFGE notably endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle. In its endorsement statement, the union declared, “We look forward to working with Vice President Harris and her running mate to repudiate the dark future outlined for our country in Project 2025 and continue delivering results for the American people.” The statement further emphasized that AFGE members’ “top priority in 2024 is defeating Donald Trump and stopping anti-worker efforts like Project 2025,” warning that another Trump administration would threaten “our union, our democracy, our rights, and our freedoms.”
Elsewhere in the capital, Loomer Unleashed captured footage of an anti-Trump demonstration outside the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), located across from the White House. Protesters, some holding National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) posters, were seen eating pizza while chanting slogans opposing the president. The NTEU, which lists its pronouns as “They/Them” on its Instagram page, has also been politically active. FEC records show the union has donated to the DCCC, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts), a key figure in expanding the CFPB’s authority during her tenure.
While Senator Warren did not attend Thursday’s protest outside the CFPB, she had previously spoken at a demonstration earlier this month at the same location, underscoring her vocal support for the agency and its mission.
The protests have drawn significant attention from elected Democrats and mainstream media outlets, which have portrayed the demonstrations as a grassroots response to Trump’s policies. However, critics point out that the organizing forces behind these rallies include unions with a history of opposition President Trump, raising questions about the broader motivations at play.
