The best way to judge a politician’s policies is by viewing their voting record when the heat is turned up the highest. Florida Senate District Seven candidate Tom Leek failed to stand for the Second Amendment when it came under attack in Florida. During his time as a Florida State Representative, Leek voted yes on House Bill 7026, also known as the Marjorie Stoneman Douglass Bill, which essentially banned those under 21 from owning a gun. Before the vote in 2018, Leek told local Florida media, “he was angered by the heavy lobbying and mean-spirited emails he’s received from those seeking a ban on assault-style weapons.” Despite being “angry” over the pressure, Leek sided with the mob, voting yes on the bill. Worse, Leek informed Politico that many of his constituents wanted him to vote against the bill, but Leek responded to their wishes, saying, “I care very little about what other people think.” The NRA came out against Florida’s Marjorie Stoneman Douglass Bill, while Kamala Harris recently reiterated her support of the bill during a March visit to Parkland. Tom Leek’s failure to support the Second Amendment has not gone unnoticed, as President Trump has endorsed Leek’s GOP Primary Opponent, David Shoar. The facts are clear: Florida gun owners can’t trust Tom Leek.
On March 7th, 2018, Tom Leek voted yes on the Marjorie Stoneman Douglass Bill, which essentially stripped the rights of those under 21 years old from owning a gun.
Before the vote, Leek informed local Florida media, “he was angered by the heavy lobbying and mean-spirited emails he’s received from those seeking a ban on assault-style weapons.” Leek still voted with the mob despite him being “angry” over the mob’s tactics.
Worse, Leek informed Politico that many of his constituents wanted him to vote against the bill, but Leek responded to their wishes, saying, “I care very little about what other people think.”
The NRA came out strongly against the Marjorie Stoneman Douglass Bill with its statement reading, “The National Rifle Association today announced that it has filed a lawsuit challenging the State of Florida’s newly-enacted ban on the purchase of firearms by young adults between the ages of 18-21.Florida’s ban is an affront to the Second Amendment, as it totally eviscerates the right of law-abiding adults between the ages of 18 and 21 to keep and bear arms. The ban is particularly offensive with respect to young women, as women between the ages of 18 and 21 are much less likely to engage in violent crime than older members of the general population who are unaffected by the ban. Despite this fact, the State of Florida has enacted a sweeping law banning all young adults between the ages of 18 and 21 from purchasing any firearm from any source.”
Tom Leek’s failure to uphold the Second Amendment has not gone unnoticed, as President Trump has endorsed Leek’s GOP Primary Opponent David Shoar. President Trump’s TruthSocial endorsement read, “David Shoar is a tremendous America First Patriot who is running to represent the incredible people of Florida’s 7th State Senate District!”
President Trump’s endorsement continues, “A Gulf War Army Veteran, David bravely served our Country and has continued to fight to protect our Communities as St. Johns County Sheriff. As your next State Senator, David will bring that same fighting Spirit to Bring Back the Great American Dream, Grow the Economy, Stop Inflation, Secure the Border, Support our Brave Military/Vets, Advance Election Integrity, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. David Shoar, who is 100% MAGA, and has been with us from the very beginning, has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
Tom Leek’s voting record proves that Florida’s gun owners can’t trust him to uphold the Second Amendment.
