The Republican Party is currently more united than ever before under President Trump’s leadership. However, last winter, this was not the case. Going into the Iowa Caucus, prominent Republicans in the Florida Statehouse like Tom Leek played pivotal roles in pushing Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign, which briefly unleashed a GOP Civil War, despite President Trump’s GOP Primary poll numbers showing GOP voters overwhelmingly backing him. The effects of the GOP Civil War resulted in millions of dollars being spent against Republicans; this money could have instead gone to efforts to secure November’s vote. Tom Leek played a pivotal role in igniting this pointless civil war by voting “Yes” on amending “Florida’s Resign To Run Law,” which allowed DeSantis to run for President without resigning from Florida’s Governorship. Leek also endorsed and donated to Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign. Leek’s disloyalty has not gone unnoticed, as President Trump has endorsed Leek’s GOP Primary Opponent David Shoar. The voters of Florida’s Seventh State Senate Seat must ensure that Tom Leek is overwhelmingly defeated at the ballot box.
During his time in the Florida State House, Tom Leek voted “Yes” on new language in Florida’s Resign to Run law, which read, “Any person seeking the office of President or Vice President of the United States is not subject to the requirements of chapter 99, Florida Statutes, which govern candidate qualifying, specifically those which require the submission of certain documents, full and public disclosures of financial interests, petition signatures, or the payment of filing fees.”
Leek’s “Yes” vote allowed for DeSantis to run for President and remain as Florida’s Governor, igniting a pointless GOP Civil War, resulting in millions of dollars being wasted on attack ads against Republicans.
Tom Leek went all in to ignite the GOP Civil War by endorsing Ron DeSantis over President Trump.
Worse, Tom Leek financially contributed to creating divisions within the GOP by donating eight times in 2023 to Ron DeSantis or PACs supporting DeSantis’ presidential campaign. It is very telling that Leek donated to DeSantis in late November of 2023, a time when GOP presidential primary polling showed President Trump taking a commanding lead in Iowa and nationally.
Tom Leek’s disloyalty has not gone unnoticed, as President Trump has endorsed Leek’s GOP Primary Opponent David Shoar. President Trump’s TruthSocial endorsement read, “David Shoar is a tremendous America First Patriot who is running to represent the incredible people of Florida’s 7th State Senate District!”
President Trump’s endorsement continues, “A Gulf War Army Veteran, David bravely served our Country and has continued to fight to protect our Communities as St. Johns County Sheriff. As your next State Senator, David will bring that same fighting Spirit to Bring Back the Great American Dream, Grow the Economy, Stop Inflation, Secure the Border, Support our Brave Military/Vets, Advance Election Integrity, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. David Shoar, who is 100% MAGA, and has been with us from the very beginning, has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!
Tom Leek is guilty of igniting a pointless GOP Civil War that wasted millions of dollars that could have gone to election integrity. Florida’s Seventh State Senate voters must ensure Tom Leek is overwhelmingly defeated at the ballot box.
