Financial responsibility is a crucial skill for Senate GOP Leadership candidates to display as the United States Senate GOP Leader must properly invest money into key 2026 U.S. Senate races that will decide if the GOP keeps their new Senate majority. Mitch McConnell groomed John Cornyn and John Thune’s past spending in the 2024 election proves to GOP voters that Thune and Cornyn can’t be trusted to manage the Senate GOP’s war chest in the 2026 midterms. John Cornyn’s PAC, The Cornyn Victory Committee, and John Thune’s PAC, New Heights Action, dumped money into failed Trump-hating United States Senate candidate Larry Hogan, who did not want Trump’s endorsement after he received it and refused to vote for Trump in the general election. Imagine if Thune and Cornyn’s PAC donations went to the United States Senate races in Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, and Michigan. Thune and Cornyn have also proven to have awful political insight. Thune once posted to X that the GOP should remove President Trump from their ticket for Mike Pence, and John Cornyn said Trump could not win the 2024 election. It is clear that GOP voters can’t trust Thune or Cornyn as Senate GOP Majority Leader.
John Cornyn and John Thune’s 2024 spending has proven to GOP voters that they cannot be trusted as Senate GOP Majority Leader. Thune’s PAC, New Heights Action, and Cornyn’s PAC, The Cornyn Victory Committee, each dumped money into the Maryland Senate race that the GOP candidate Larry Hogan lost by 9 points. FEC records show that the Cornyn Victory Committee wasted $75k in Maryland and New Heights Action wasted $200k on Maryland’s Future, a group running pro-Hogan ads.
Cornyn and Thune’s decision to invest in Hogan is quite telling, given that Hogan hates Trump. Hogan disavowed President Trump’s endorsement after he received it. Worse, Hogan refused to vote for President Trump in the general election, telling local media that he did not vote for Trump or Harris.
Thune and Cornyn have also proven to have awful political insight. On October 8, 2016, Thune wrote on his X account, “Donald Trump should withdraw and Mike Pence should be our nominee effective immediately.”
In May of 2023, Cornyn said that President Trump can’t win the 2024 election because he is not “electable.” It is important to note that Cornyn attended a D.C. fundraiser for then-presidential candidate Ron DeSantis. Cornyn eventually endorsed Trump after Trump won the Iowa Caucus by a record margin.
Laura Loomer posted on Thune and Cornyn’s embarrassing financial mismanagement, “Imagine if Thune spent that $200K in Wisconsin, Nevada, or Arizona. Thune’s wasteful spending proves he can’t be trusted to be Senate Majority Leader! The only choice for @SenateGOPleader is @ScottforFlorida.”
Imagine it’s November of 2026, and the control of the United States Senate is up for grabs; President Trump needs a victory in order to confirm a Supreme Court of The United States vacancy, which will likely open in 2027. Given their history, John Thune and John Cornyn can’t be trusted to lead the Senate GOP to victory in 2026.
