John Thune Invited His Anti-Trump Nephew To Give The Opening Prayer On The Senate Floor

Trump hatred runs strong in the Thune family. John Thune invited his nephew, Bob Thune, to give an opening prayer on the United States Senate floor in 2022 despite Bob Thune’s past anti-Trump statements. In 2016, Bob Thune posted to X that Trump “will not be the nominee.” Bob Thune’s 2016 posts also encouraged voters to vote for Hillary. In 2017, Bob Thune used Bible verses to call Trump a fool. Bob Thune’s Trump hate continued past 2022 as Bob Thune criticized President Trump’s healthcare plans during September’s presidential debate. Bob Thune’s posts also embraced open borders. John Thune has also made anti-Trump and open-border statements on X, calling for Mike Pence to replace Trump on the ticket. John Thune was also against President Trump’s emergency declaration to build the wall. It is clear that John Thune can’t be trusted to be Senate GOP Leader.

During his speech on the floor, John Thune said, “I just began by acknowledging and thanking pastor Bob Thune for his opening prayer this morning. It should come as no surprise based on the last name; he is my nephew.”

Despite his anti-Trump remarks, John Thune invited his nephew Bob Thune to the United States Senate floor. In 2016 Bob Thune posted to X, “Mark this: Trump’s demise begins now. With Jeb out, GOP establishment will start 2 line up behind Rubio or Kasich. Trump will NOT be nominee.”

Bob Thune also called on voters to support Hillary Clinton, writing, “If you’re thinking of voting for Trump… you need to read this first. newyorker.com/magazine/ 2016/.. via @newyorker”

In 2017, Bob Thune used the Bible to call Trump a “fool” posting, “Thankfully, the book of Proverbs gives us resources to understand a person like Trump.

Bob Thune continued his Trump hate past 2022. Last September, Bob Thune used Obama’s “concepts of a plan” talking points to attack President Trump, posting, “I don’t have a sermon for this Sunday… but I do have concepts of a sermon.”

It is also important to note that Bob Thune supports Kamala Harris’s open borders with one of his X posts reading, “Does Christian love require open borders? That’s the topic of this week’s podcast, spurred by some listener questions and by @WBLittlejohn’s thoughtful essay at @firstthingsmag titled “A Theology of Immigration.”

John Thune has also made anti-Trump and open-border statements. On October 8, 2016, Thune wrote on his X account, “Donald Trump should withdraw and Mike Pence should be our nominee effective immediately.”

The Thune family loves open border policies. John Thune told CNN that he was against President Trump’s national emergency declaration to build the wall, saying, “Frankly, I’m not crazy about going down that path. Inevitably, I suspect it probably gets challenged in court.”

John Thune’s disloyalty to President Trump should disqualify him from contention as the GOP Senate Majority Leader. President Trump needs an ally in the Senate GOP Majority Leader, and it is clear John Thune can’t be trusted.
