New York’s New Mayor Prioritizes Illegals Over Citizens

New York City is once again putting illegal immigrants ahead of its own citizens, and the new mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, is proudly doubling down. Fresh off a respectful and surprisingly civil meeting with President Trump, Mamdani wasted no time reminding everyone that he plans to keep New York a so-called “sanctuary city.” That may sound nice to some on paper, but let’s be honest — the average American knows exactly what this means. More crime. More chaos. More taxpayer dollars going to people who shouldn’t even be here in the first place.

Mamdani stood in a Bronx church and made it crystal clear: his top priority is protecting illegal immigrants, not the hardworking legal residents of New York City. He even complained that too many people were being deported “for the crime of making a regular court appearance.” That’s not the full story, and he knows it. These people aren’t being picked up for just showing up to court — many have criminal records, and some are linked to serious offenses. But the left wants to twist the narrative to make it sound like innocent people are being targeted. That’s simply not true.

Here’s what the mainstream media won’t say: Sanctuary city policies are dangerous. They tie the hands of local law enforcement, create a safe haven for criminals, and send a message to the entire world that crossing our borders illegally comes with rewards, not consequences. New Yorkers — especially those in working-class neighborhoods — are the ones paying the price. They’re the ones dealing with overcrowded schools, strained hospitals, rising crime, and housing shortages. And yet, Mamdani’s solution is to protect the very policies that caused the problem in the first place.

Now, to his credit, President Trump met with Mamdani and showed real leadership. He could have refused the meeting, but instead, he found common ground where he could — on affordability and fixing what’s broken in New York. That’s what a real leader does: puts pride aside to get things done. Trump even said he’d be “cheering” Mamdani on and willing to help him. That’s the kind of mature, America-first leadership we’ve come to expect from President Trump.

But let’s not kid ourselves. No matter how polite Mamdani was in Washington, he came back to New York and immediately made it clear that his agenda is not aligned with the everyday concerns of the people. He’s more worried about being politically correct than being practically effective. And while he claims he’s focused on “public safety,” that rings hollow when you’re refusing to cooperate with federal immigration agents and letting criminal aliens fall through the cracks.

This is the kind of backwards thinking that’s been driving New York into the ground for years. Sanctuary policies don’t protect immigrants — they protect criminals. Legal immigrants who follow the rules and work hard should be welcomed and supported. But illegal immigrants who commit crimes? They should be held accountable, not shielded from the law.

The silent majority in this country is tired of the double standards. We’re tired of politicians who bend over backward for people who broke our laws, while ignoring the needs of veterans, single moms, small business owners, and everyday taxpayers. We’re tired of being told we’re heartless for wanting secure borders and safe streets. Wanting law and order isn’t cruel — it’s common sense.

It’s time for leaders who put Americans first. Mamdani may have won over some liberal voters in the city, but let’s see how long that goodwill lasts when the streets get more dangerous, when budgets get tighter, and when working-class families keep getting pushed to the back of the line. President Trump is doing his part to work with even the most unlikely partners to fix what’s broken in this country. Let’s hope Mamdani figures out sooner rather than later that protecting illegal immigrants at the expense of American citizens is not leadership — it’s failure in disguise.
