Outgoing Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey Finally Concedes

Outgoing Pennsylvania United States Senator Bob Casey finally conceded on Thursday night. Casey’s concession came weeks after his race was called. Casey’s efforts to overturn his election loss became so serious that he was fundraising for his post-election challenges as Pennsylvania Senate Elect David McCormick attended new senator orientation on Capitol Hill. Top Democrat election lawyer Marc Elias also attempted to overturn Casey’s election loss. Casey’s election loss means that for the first time in over 50 years, there will not be an elected Casey in power in Pennsylvania. In 2018, Senator Bob Casey cruised to a 12% victory. During the summer and early fall months of 2024, Senator Casey likely believed he would cruise to reelection again as polling from his race showed him constantly leading his opponent by double digits. McCormick then went on to beat Casey by .06%. Casey’s defeat in Pennsylvania is historic as an entrenched elected Democrat from a rustbelt state was beaten by the MAGA movement.

Bob Casey conceded his Senate race on Thursday night, posting to X, “During my time in office, I have been guided by an inscription on the Finance Building in Harrisburg: ‘All public service is a trust, given in faith and accepted in honor.’ Thank you for your trust in me for all these years, Pennsylvania. It has been the honor of my lifetime.”

Top Democrat election lawyer Marc Elias, who has also been attempting to overturn the Pennsylvania Senate election results also admitted defeat on Thursday, “Senator Casey is a good man and a great public servant. It has been an honor and a privilege to have represented him over the many years of his service to the people of Pennsylvania. I look forward to seeing what he does next.”

Before his concession, Casey and Elias seemed determined to overturn Casey’s election loss. Outgoing Senator Casey even launched a fundraising blitz as Pennsylvania Senate Elect David McCormick attended new senator orientation on Capitol Hill. Casey’s email falsely claimed his race had not been called and that he needed funds to continue the fight. Casey’s email read, “We know things feel hard right now. There’s so much we don’t know, but there’s something we still can do to fight back. Bob Casey’s Senate race in Pennsylvania is still too close to call. There are tens of thousands of ballots left to be counted, and Pennsylvanians deserve to have their voices heard.”

It is quite ironic that Casey refused to accept his election loss. Leading up to the election, Casey refused to apologize after Loomer Unleashed asked him, “Hello, Senator Casey. Will you apologize for calling President Trump a threat to democracy in the wake of the second Trump assassination attempt where the shooter accused President Trump of being a threat to democracy? So, will you apologize for calling Trump a threat to democracy? You have called Trump a threat to democracy countless times, Senator; we have the receipts. Are you sure you do not want to answer?”
