Raytheon Backed Iowa Senator Who Voted To Confirm Lloyd Austin Says “The Vetting Will Continue” On Pete Hegseth

Iowa United States Senator Joni Ernst said that “the vetting will continue” after being asked if she would support President Trump’s Secretary of Defense Nominee Pete Hegseth. Ernst sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee. It is important to note that Ernst voted to confirm Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, who then unleashed DEI policies into the military. Ernst’s vote to confirm Austin is interesting, considering that she received donations from Raytheon’s PAC. Before his Secretary of Defense nomination, Lloyd Austin sat on the Raytheon Board. President Trump won Iowa by 56%-42% over Kamala Harris. Judging by Trump’s November Iowa victory, it is clear that a majority of Ernst’s voters want her to vote “Yes” on Pete Hegseth. Hopefully, Senator Ernst will follow the will of her voters.

Iowa United States Senator and Senate Armed Services Committee member Joni Ernst said the “vetting will continue” following her meetings with President Trump’s Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth. Ernst’s hesitation in supporting Hegseth is eye-opening because President Trump won Iowa by 56%-42% over Kamala Harris. Judging by Trump’s November Iowa victory, it is clear that a majority of Ernst’s voters want her to vote “Yes” on Pete Hegseth.

It is important to note that Ernst voted to confirm Lloyd Austin, Joe Biden’s and Kamala Harris’s Secretary of Defense. Ernst’s statement on her yes vote on Austin read, “Today I voted to confirm Lloyd Austin to be the next Secretary of Defense. As a member of @SASCGOP, I will work with SecDef Austin and hold him accountable to help prevent sexual assault in the military, ensure our troops are supported, and curb wasteful spending @DeptofDefense.”

Senator Ernst’s assessment of Austin turned out to be wrong. Instead of cutting wasteful spending, the military under Austin instituted wasteful DEI policies. The Department of Defense Equity Action Plan 2023 Update orders read, “Integrate environmental/economic justice tools into DoD planning tools for decision-making.”

Last summer, as he arrived to testify on Capitol Hill, Secretary Austin refused to answer Loomer Unleashed’s question, “Are the DoD’s DEI policies putting America’s safety at risk?”

Senator Ernst’s vote to confirm Austin is interesting, considering that FEC records show she received donations from Raytheon’s PAC. Before his Secretary of Defense nomination, Lloyd Austin sat on the Raytheon Board.

Laura Loomer posted about the developments between Hegseth and Senator Ernst, “It’s encouraging that @SenJoniErnst had a meeting with Pete Hegseth @PeteHegseth yesterday, but she said today that she is still a “no” on Hegseth and that “the vetting will continue” during an interview this morning on Fox News… Hopefully, Joni will change her tune soon, as she met with Pete Hegseth yesterday and yesterday President Trump said he is still standing by @PeteHegseth.”

The voters gave President Trump a mandate for sweeping reform, and Republican Senators have an obligation to represent their voters’ interests in the United States Senate. This means GOP Senators must back President Trump’s nominees.
