Stop Democrat MAHA Grifters With A California Playbook From Undermining MAGA

Well-known Democrat activists are co-opting the MAHA movement to advance a Democrat nanny-state vision, and they have their eyes set on red states. They are rallying support among Republicans in a dozen state capitols to bypass Washington and initiate a series of food bans and labelling laws that will harm both consumers and small businesses. From West Virginia and Florida, to Texas and Arizona, there is a Trojan-horse campaign to bring Democrat policies back into play under the guise of “Making America Healthy Again”.

Two of the prominent trojan horse figures leading this guerilla attack, Todd Wagner and Vani Hari, have a long documented history as Democrat operatives. Looking at their political affiliations and links to California’s progressive “reforms,” we should be questioning their motives.

Wagner is the billionaire business partner of Mark Cuban, the infamous Trump hater and celebrated Democrat mega-donor. Wagner contributed over $200,000 to the Biden and Harris campaigns in 2024, and he donated to many Democrat organizations in the swing states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin during the last election cycle.

Wagner recruited RINO Arnold Schwarzenegger into his new advocacy group, Food Fight USA, to help Governor Gavin Newsom pass California’s Food Safety Act. When the legislation officially goes into effect on January 1, 2027, right on time for the 2028 Presidential election, a handful of additives that are FDA-approved will be banned in California. Now, other states are following this route of piecemeal regulation that will make it more difficult for small businesses to compete, and these policies will raise costs for consumers. And in case it’s not clear how involved Wagner has been in shaping California’s reforms of the food industry, his friend Mark Cuban singled him out for his tireless efforts in bringing Newsom, as well as five other states, around to his way of thinking. It is worth noting Cuban campaigned for Kamala Harris in 2024, while Schwarzenegger has publicly clashed with conservatives, famously dismissing critics of COVID-19 regulations with the phrase “screw your freedoms” and likening the January 6 Capitol protest to Nazi actions.

Wagner was in Florida in March, alongside Vani Hari, as they pressed for the Republican Florida legislature to pass a bill that would require warning labels on all products with food dyes. Hari’s long history as a self-appointed “food safety expert” and Democrat activist has followed a similar blueprint: scare the public into buying expensive, “healthier” alternatives. What too few are talking about is how these scare tactics spawned her lucrative businesses, moving from marketing arrangements to creating her own line of health food supplements, Truvani, which recently relocated to Florida.

Vani has long been active with North Carolina Democratsand even served as a delegate for President Obama’s re-election at the Democratic National Convention in 2012. Her influence continues to grow alongside her progressive politics. Recently, she warned “big food” that she was coming for them, insisting that the US should follow the EU’s lead on regulations. Shortly afterwards, it was highlighted how her line of protein powders contains a sweetener derived from monk fruit that has not been approved in the EU. There is no health risk. The sweetener hasn’t been approved only because of the EU’s slow and excessive regulatory hurdles. Is it even more embarrassing that monk fruit extracts are approved in the US because of the GRAS exemption that Wagner and Vani have persistently derided?

The FDA is under Trump’s control now. We don’t need the EU to tell us what is safe.

There are voices influencing Republican state legislators laying the groundwork for progressive initiatives, Democrat campaigns, disguising themselves under the cloak of wellness and children’s health, but really just promoting their own personal agendas and business interests.

We see this happening in Texas with proposed bans on food additives and unwarranted labelling regulations. The proposed labelling bill under consideration would require a warning label for any ingredient that has been considered safe in the US but has been banned elsewhere. If signed into law, the warnings will read: “This product contains an artificial color, chemical, or food additive that is banned in Australia, Canada, the European Union, or the United Kingdom.” Imagine the humiliation in the Lone Star State if this is enacted; everyone would know that the “Republic of Texas” outsourced its hard-fought independence to regulators more concerned with foreign laws, as opposed to America’s laws.

Arizona and Utah just passed bills banning food dyes from school lunches, and there are twenty other states considering legislation to ban a variety of food additives. Making solo runs, as Republican state legislators are doing, will only hurt small businesses and weaken interstate commerce. Most producers will lack the capacity to tailor recipes and packaging for individual states. The absence of a unified regulatory approach on the federal level will stifle interstate commerce, limit consumer choice, and raise the cost of food.

Americans were tired of that playbook and returned Trump to Washington with a mandate to stop such nonsense.

The FDA must be the only arbiter on food safety – whether talking about additives or labelling. As our nation’s new HHS Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been clear that transformative change is coming, even informing top food executives of his plans to ban artificial dyes if industry doesn’t remove them first. Kennedy then directed the FDA commissioner to revise the GRAS rules to enhance the FDA’s oversight and offer more transparency to consumers. Kennedy needs to keep leading to ensure that outside interests do not undermine Trump’s agenda. During the 2024 election cycle, Hari rallied behind Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. After the election, Hari attended Kennedy’s confirmation hearings in the United States Senate.

We’re seeing a succession of Republican legislators being led astray by progressive influencers and Democrat fundraisers, modern-day pied pipers marching state governments back towards the inflationary excesses of broken Democrat policies.
